Advocates for the Future is a non-profit organisation that harnesses the power of the law to advocate for people and planet. Our mission is to advocate for the Future - for our own Future, our children's Future, and for the Future of generations to come.
We seek diversity in our partnerships and build ambitious coalitions that can make an impact. We find innovative legal pathways to contribute to the great challenges of our time. By focusing on social tipping points, we support change.
Our approach entails creative conception, thorough investigation, strategic initiation, contentious coordination, and effective implementation of ambitious projects. All aimed at generating profound impact.
We are a team of lawyers and strategists — plus a powerful network of researchers, communicators and issue experts, united in our mission to advocate for change.

Objectives
Advocates for the Future aims to protect people, animals and the planet against (dangerous) climate change, loss of biodiversity, environmental pollution, soil depletion and the damage and destruction of ecosystems and to contribute to a sustainable society and to find solutions for social issues, all that for the benefit of current and future generations both within and outside the Netherlands and all that is related to the above or can be conducive to it, all in the broadest sense of the word.
Supervisory Board
Advocates for the Future operates under a two-tier governance model that includes a Supervisory Board holding formal oversight over the organisation, and a Board tasked with the management of the organisation.
The Supervisory Board of Advocates for the Future consists of:

Caecilia Thunnissen.
Supervisory Board and Board members are compensated in line with public regulations for Dutch foundations, and are reimbursed for expenses incurred in the course of fulfilling their duties.

Vision & mission
Advocates for the Future is an innovative law charity that advocates for the future. It seeks to protect the public interest, with a particular emphasis on the future represented by young people and future generations. Advocates for the Future advocates for people and planet and when fundamental rights in jeopardy.
Employment and remuneration
Team members at Advocates for the Future are contracted under Dutch law and remunerated for their work in accordance with applicable regulations. When determining the salary structure and other employment conditions for our director(s) and staff, the idealistic character of the stichting, the donors involved and the required professionalism and expertise are taken into account.
Lawyers employed by Advocates for the Future
The lawyers employed by Advocates for the Future act on behalf of Stichting Advocates for the Future. In specific cases, they may also represent affiliated parties, such as civil society organisations and/or individuals, provided their interests fully align with Advocates for the Future's idealistic objectives.
Our lawyers have registered the following principal legal practice areas in the Netherlands Bar's register of legal areas (rechtsgebiedenregister):
Hanneke Schreur is registered for the principal legal practice area General Practice;
Irene Bloemen is registered for the principal legal practice area General Practice;
Rebecca van der Weerdt is registered for the principal legal practice area General Practice.
Based on this registration, they are each required to obtain ten training credits per calendar year in each registered principal legal practice area, in accordance with the standards set by the Netherlands Bar.
Please note: Stichting Advocates for the Future does not maintain a Third-Party Funds Foundation (Stichting Derdengelden) and consequently cannot receive any third-party funds (derdengelden).
